Ovum transfer, also known as embryo transfer, is a procedure in which fertilized eggs (embryos) are placed into a woman's uterus with the goal of achieving pregnancy. This is a crucial step in assisted reproductive technology (ART) such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The Embryo Transfer Process:
- Timing: Ovum transfer typically occurs 2 to 5 days after oocyte retrieval (egg collection), the procedure where eggs are retrieved from the ovaries for fertilization outside the body.
