How do royals drink tea?

Published in Royal Etiquette 1 min read

Royals, particularly in the British tradition, typically drink tea with a specific etiquette and style.

According to a former royal butler, the Queen (and presumably other royals) favored a particular method:

  • Loose Leaf Tea: They use loose leaf tea, not tea bags.
  • Strainer: After brewing, the tea is poured through a strainer into a fine bone china cup.
  • Milk After: Milk is added after the tea has been poured.

This method reflects a preference for tradition and attention to detail. While variations likely exist within different royal families and individual preferences, this is the generally accepted practice for traditional royal tea drinking.
