How to Take Time-Lapse Video on Samsung?

Published in Samsung Camera 2 mins read

To take a time-lapse video on a Samsung phone, you need to use the Hyperlapse feature within your camera application. Samsung's Hyperlapse mode is its equivalent to a standard time-lapse function, allowing you to capture long events and condense them into short, sped-up videos.

While you might not find a direct "time-lapse" button, the functionality is readily available under the "More" options in your Samsung camera app.

Steps to Create a Hyperlapse Video on Samsung

Follow these simple steps to record a time-lapse (Hyperlapse) video on your Samsung device:

  1. Open the Camera App: Launch the default Camera application on your Samsung smartphone.
  2. Navigate to More Options: Upon opening the camera, you might not see a direct time-lapse option. As noted in the reference, "there's no time lapse functionality" visible immediately. You need to swipe over to 'More' on the camera mode selection bar. This is usually found by swiping right across the modes like Photo, Video, Portrait, etc.
  3. Select Hyperlapse: In the 'More' section, you will find various specialized camera modes. Look for and tap on the Hyperlapse option. This activates the time-lapse recording mode.
  4. Start Recording: Once in Hyperlapse mode, tap the record button to begin capturing your sped-up video.
  5. Stop Recording: Tap the record button again to stop the Hyperlapse recording. Your time-lapse video will then be saved to your gallery.

Understanding Hyperlapse

Hyperlapse technology goes beyond simple time-lapse by often including built-in video stabilization, which helps to create incredibly smooth and watchable sped-up footage even if there's some camera movement. This makes it ideal for capturing dynamic scenes like clouds moving, sunsets, bustling cityscapes, or even long commutes, all condensed into short, engaging clips.
