What Happened to Gems TV?

Published in Shopping Channels 1 min read

While Gems TV itself continued its operations, a significant transformation occurred within its broadcast network concerning its sister channel, Gems TV 2. This change marked an evolution in its channel offerings, redirecting its simulcast service into a distinct new entity.

Transformation of Gems TV 2

On October 8, 2010, Gems TV 2 ceased its function of simulcasting the main Gems TV channel. Instead of mirroring the content of its primary counterpart, Gems TV 2 was re-launched as a completely new channel dedicated to jewellery, known as Gem Collector. This new channel was also referred to as the Coloured Rocks channel, indicating a refined focus on specific product categories.

Prior to this transition, Gems TV 2 served as an extended viewing option for audiences, making the Gems TV content accessible across multiple platforms. Its availability included:

  • Sky
  • Virgin Media
  • A live stream directly on the Gems TV website

The strategic move to replace the simulcast with Gem Collector allowed for the expansion of content diversity within the network, creating a dedicated space for specialized programming related to precious stones and jewellery collecting. This shift aimed to cater to a more targeted audience interested in unique offerings beyond the general Gems TV broadcast.
