Where is Shortcuts Privacy Settings?

Published in Shortcuts Privacy 2 mins read

Privacy settings for individual shortcuts are found within the details of each shortcut directly in the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad. There isn't a single, central privacy hub for all shortcuts; instead, you manage permissions for each one separately.

Accessing Privacy Settings for Individual Shortcuts

To view and adjust the privacy settings for a specific shortcut, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Shortcuts App: Launch the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select a Shortcut: On the "All Shortcuts" or "My Shortcuts" screen, tap on the specific shortcut you wish to adjust. This will open the shortcut's editor.
  3. Open Details: In the shortcut editor, look for and tap the "..." (More) button or the "Info" icon (which often looks like an "i" in a circle) usually located in the top right corner. This action opens the shortcut's Details panel.
  4. Navigate to Privacy: Within the Details panel, scroll down and tap on the Privacy tab.

Understanding Shortcut Privacy Options

Once in the Privacy settings for a shortcut, you can see and manage the permissions it requests.

  • Adjusting Permissions: Here, you'll find various options related to the data or services the shortcut might access. For example, you can turn off access to sensitive data points such as your Location or prevent it from interacting with apps like Safari.
  • No Privacy Tab?: If you don't see a "Privacy" tab within a shortcut's Details, it indicates that the shortcut does not have access to any of your data or system features that would require specific privacy controls. This means the shortcut is either self-contained or only uses information it generates or is explicitly given.

By managing these settings, you maintain control over what information and services your custom automation tools can interact with on your device.
