How to Unlock Capes in Sky?

Published in Sky Cape Unlocking 3 mins read

Unlocking capes in Sky: Children of the Light is a fundamental part of character progression and customization, with various methods ranging from acquiring them through spirits to earning advanced versions for dedicated players. Capes not only change your appearance but also enhance your flight capabilities.

Unlocking Standard Capes from Spirits

The most common way to acquire new capes is by befriending Spirits found throughout the various realms. Each spirit has a constellation of unlockable items, including capes, emotes, and accessories. As you progress through a spirit's friendship tree, you'll spend Candles (the primary in-game currency) and sometimes Hearts (a social currency obtained through gifting or friends) to unlock their offerings.

Here's a general breakdown of how to acquire capes from spirits:

  • Find and Relive Spirits: Explore each realm to find spirits. Once found, relive their memories to unlock them in the Home space constellation.
  • Progress Through Friendship Trees: In the Home space, interact with the spirit's constellation to see their available items. You'll typically need to unlock previous items in their tree to reach the cape.
  • Spend Currency: Capes usually require a significant number of Candles, and sometimes Hearts, to purchase.
Cape Type Source Spirit Type Typical Currency Notes
Regular Capes Realm Spirits Candles, Hearts Essential for completing constellation progress.
Event/Seasonal Capes Seasonal Spirits, Traveling Spirits Seasonal Candles, Candles, Hearts, Event Currency Available for limited times during specific events.

Acquiring Event and Seasonal Capes

Sky often features seasonal events and Traveling Spirits that offer unique, time-limited capes. These capes are often distinct in design and may require special event-specific currency or a higher amount of regular Candles and Hearts.

  • Seasonal Events: During a "Season," new spirits appear, offering their own progression trees with unique capes. These usually require Seasonal Candles to unlock and are only available while the season is active. After a season ends, these spirits may return as Traveling Spirits.
  • Traveling Spirits: Periodically, spirits from past seasons will visit the Home space for a few days. This provides an opportunity to unlock their exclusive capes if you missed them previously. They typically require a substantial amount of regular Candles and Hearts.

Advanced Capes: Understanding Tier 2 Capes

For long-time players who have thoroughly explored the game and completed many constellations, Tier 2 Capes become available as bonus content. These are special, upgraded versions of existing capes, often featuring a more intricate design or unique glow.

Unlocking a Tier 2 Cape is a significant achievement and involves a specific process:

  1. Fully Complete a Spirit's Constellation: To unlock a Tier 2 Cape, you must first complete all items in a specific spirit's regular constellation, including purchasing their original cape and all associated emotes and expressions.
  2. Acquire a Second Wing Buff: Once a spirit's constellation is fully completed, a second Wing Buff becomes available from that spirit. This second Wing Buff is the key to unlocking the Tier 2 Cape.
  3. Spend Ascended Candles: The second Wing Buff requires a large number of Ascended Candles to purchase. Ascended Candles are a rare currency primarily obtained by sacrificing Winged Light in the Eye of Eden.
  4. Unlock the Tier 2 Cape: After acquiring the second Wing Buff from a specific spirit, their corresponding Tier 2 Cape will be unlocked and available in your wardrobe.

It's important to note that neither the second Wing Buff nor the Tier 2 Cape needs to be purchased as part of the core requirement for completing a Realm's Constellation. They are purely bonus content for dedicated players.
