How do I change the order of slides in a presentation?

Published in Slide Management 2 mins read

To change the order of slides in a presentation, you can simply drag and drop the slide thumbnails within the slide pane. Here's how to do it:

Steps to Rearrange Slides

  1. Locate the Slide Pane: Typically, you'll find a pane on the left side of your presentation software (like PowerPoint or Google Slides) that displays small thumbnails of your slides.
  2. Select the Slide: Click on the thumbnail of the slide you want to move. It will be highlighted to indicate it's selected.
  3. Drag and Drop: Click and hold the selected slide thumbnail, then drag it to the new position where you want it to appear in your presentation. The other slides will shift to make space for the moved slide.
  4. Release the Mouse: Let go of the mouse button when the slide thumbnail is in its desired location.

Moving Multiple Slides

You can also move multiple slides simultaneously:

  1. Select Multiple Slides:
    • Hold down the Ctrl key (or Command key on macOS).
    • Click on each of the slide thumbnails you want to move. This will select multiple slides at once.
  2. Drag and Drop Selected Slides:
    • Once all desired slides are selected, click and hold on any of the selected thumbnails.
    • Drag the group of selected slides to their new location in the presentation.
    • Release the mouse button to place the slides at their new position.

Example:

Let's say you have a presentation with slides ordered as Slide 1, Slide 2, Slide 3, Slide 4, and Slide 5. If you want to move Slide 4 to come right after Slide 1, you would:

  1. Select the thumbnail of Slide 4 in the left-hand slide pane.
  2. Drag it up, positioning it between Slide 1 and Slide 2.
  3. Release the mouse button, and your slides will now be ordered as Slide 1, Slide 4, Slide 2, Slide 3, and Slide 5.

By using this simple drag-and-drop technique, you can easily reorganize your presentation's slide flow as needed.
