To get into Skull Cavern, you first need to acquire the Skull Key, which is essential for unlocking its entrance.
Unlocking Skull Cavern: The Skull Key
The door to Skull Cavern is initially locked, making the Skull Key a mandatory item for entry. Without this specific key, you will not be able to access the Cavern.
Where to Find the Skull Key
The Skull Key is located in the deepest reaches of the Pelican Town Mines. To obtain it, you must:
- Descend to Floor 120: The key is found on the very lowest level of the Mines. This requires you to explore all preceding floors.
- Prepare for Challenges: The Mines are the first combat area most players encounter in Stardew Valley. As you progress deeper, the challenges become progressively more difficult, with tougher monsters and more complex layouts. Be sure to prepare with adequate weapons, tools, and food.
Steps to Access Skull Cavern
- Navigate Pelican Town Mines: Begin your journey into the Mines, located north of Pelican Town.
- Reach the Bottom: Systematically clear each floor until you reach Floor 120. This involves finding ladders or shafts to descend further.
- Claim the Key: Upon reaching Floor 120, the Skull Key will be available for you to collect.
- Head to Calico Desert: Once you have the Skull Key, you can travel to the Calico Desert (accessible via the Bus after completing the Vault bundle in the Community Center or purchasing the Joja Community Development Form) and use the key to unlock the entrance to Skull Cavern.
