How Do You Get the Whack Mole in Stardew Valley?

Published in Stardew Valley Mechanics 2 mins read

To "whack the mole" in Stardew Valley, you need to locate a specific mole on Ginger Island and use a clever trick to obtain a Golden Walnut from it. This is not a mini-game but rather an environmental puzzle.

Locating and Whacking the Mole for a Golden Walnut

The "whack mole" encounter is found on Ginger Island and rewards players with a Golden Walnut, a valuable currency for various unlocks on the island. Follow these steps to successfully acquire it:

  1. Pinpoint the Location: Travel to the southeast side of the beach on Ginger Island. This area is specifically located directly south of Birdie's hut. You will notice a small cluster of four mole holes in the ground.
  2. Trap the Mole: The mole will dart between these four holes, making it difficult to hit. To make it vulnerable, you must cover three of the four holes with any placeable objects. This can include:
    • Floor tiles (wood, stone, crystal, etc.)
    • Fences or gates
    • Chests
    • Crops (though less practical)
By doing this, you force the mole to emerge consistently from the single remaining open hole.
  3. Perform the "Whack": Once the mole is confined to one hole, wait for it to pop up. Then, simply hit it with one of your standard tools. The following tools are effective for this task:
    • Axe
    • Pickaxe
    • Watering Can

Upon a successful hit, the mole will disappear, leaving behind a precious Golden Walnut for you to collect.
