Sharing a Storyboard Pro file or its contents can be done in a couple of ways, depending on what you need to share. You might want to share the entire project file with collaborators or share specific assets like drawing layers for reuse or external work.
Here, we will cover how to share specific drawing layers within your project, a common method for sharing reusable artwork or working on panels collaboratively.
Sharing Specific Drawing Layers (Using References)
If you need to share just the artwork on a particular layer—perhaps to use it in another scene, another project, or have someone else work on that specific drawing—Storyboard Pro allows you to share individual drawing layers. This process extracts the drawing from that layer into a separate, shareable file format.
Follow these steps to share a drawing layer:
-
Locate the Drawing Layer: In the Drawing list view, find the specific layer that contains the drawing you wish to share. The Drawing list typically shows all layers within your current panel.
-
Right-Click the Layer: Right-click directly on the name of the layer in the Drawing list. This action will bring up a context menu with various options for that layer.
-
Select Share Drawing: From the context menu that appears after right-clicking, select the "Share Drawing" option.
- Reference 1: In the Drawing list, right-click the layer that contains the drawing to share.
- Reference 2: Right-click and select Share Drawing.
What Happens When You Share a Drawing?
When you select "Share Drawing," Storyboard Pro typically allows you to save the drawing layer's content as a separate file. This file can then be easily sent to others or imported into different Storyboard Pro projects. This is particularly useful for:
- Collaborating on specific pieces of art.
- Building a library of reusable assets (like characters, props, or backgrounds).
- Working on detailed drawings outside the main storyboard file.
Sharing the Entire Storyboard Pro Project File
If your goal is to share the entire Storyboard Pro project, including all panels, scenes, timing, camera movements, sound, and layers, you simply need to share the main project file.
- Save Your Project: Ensure your project is saved. Go to File > Save or File > Save As... to save your
.sboard
file. - Locate the
.sboard
File: Find the saved.sboard
file on your computer. Storyboard Pro projects are saved as single files with the.sboard
extension. - Share the File: You can then share this
.sboard
file like any other file – by emailing it, uploading it to a cloud storage service (like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive), or using file-sharing platforms.
Remember that when sharing the entire project file, the recipient will need Storyboard Pro installed to open and work with it.
Sharing drawing layers is a specific function for exporting individual art assets, while sharing the .sboard
file is for distributing the complete storyboard project.
