How do you sync layers in Harmony?

Published in Toon Boom Harmony 1 min read

To sync layers in Toon Boom Harmony, you link their timing to a "parent" layer, so changes in the parent layer's animation affect the synced layers. Here's how you do it:

  1. Right-click on the drawing layer in the Timeline view that you want to sync to another layer. This is the layer that will follow the timing of the parent layer.
  2. In the context menu that appears, select Sync Layers With.
  3. A drop-down list will appear. Choose the parent drawing layer that you want the selected layer to be synced with. The timing of this parent layer will now control the timing of the layer you're currently configuring.
  4. Click OK.

After following these steps, the timing (exposure, drawing substitution, etc.) of the synced layer will match the timing of the parent layer you selected. This means that if you extend the exposure of a drawing on the parent layer, the synced layer's exposure will also extend.

Essentially, syncing layers lets you efficiently manage animation timing across multiple layers by linking them to a central point of control. It's useful for maintaining consistency in your animation project and streamlining your workflow.
