How do I use Touch ID on my app?

Published in Touch ID Usage 2 mins read

Touch ID allows you to unlock your iPhone, authorize payments, automatically fill in passwords, and open password-protected apps. To enable Touch ID:

  1. Go to Settings: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Find Touch ID & Passcode: Scroll down and tap on "Touch ID & Passcode" (or "Face ID & Passcode" on newer devices).
  3. Enter Passcode: You might be prompted to enter your passcode for security reasons.
  4. Configure Touch ID:
    • Use Touch ID For: Under this section, you'll see various options. Turn on the toggles next to the features you want to use with Touch ID. These may include:
      • iPhone Unlock: Allows you to unlock your iPhone using your fingerprint.
      • Apple Pay: Authorizes payments made using Apple Pay.
      • Password Autofill: Fills in saved passwords in apps and websites.
      • iTunes & App Store: Authorizes purchases from the iTunes and App Store.
  5. Adding Fingerprints (if needed): If you haven't already set up Touch ID, or if you want to add more fingerprints, tap on "Add a Fingerprint..." and follow the on-screen instructions. The process involves repeatedly placing your finger on the Home button (or power button on newer devices) until your fingerprint is fully scanned.

Important Considerations:

  • Cleanliness: Ensure your finger and the Home button (or power button) are clean and dry for optimal performance.
  • Placement: When adding a fingerprint, try holding your finger in different positions so the system can learn it from various angles.
  • Troubleshooting: If Touch ID isn't working reliably, try deleting your existing fingerprints and adding them again. Make sure your finger is covering the entire sensor area.
