What happens after the semi-finals?

Published in Tournament Stages 1 min read

After the semi-finals, the two victorious competitors advance to compete in the final, also known as the championship round.

In a single-elimination tournament, the structure is designed to narrow down the field of participants through a series of direct elimination matches until only one ultimate winner remains. The progression typically follows these stages:

  • Quarter-final Round: This stage involves eight competitors.
  • Semi-final Round: Following the quarter-finals, four competitors remain. The matches played at this stage determine which two participants will advance to the final.
  • The Final / Championship Round: This is the culminating match where the two winners from the semi-final round face each other. The outcome of this match determines the overall tournament champion.

This clear progression ensures that each match is crucial, leading to an exciting climax in the championship round.
