Can you still smoke on trains?

Published in Train Travel Regulations 1 min read

No, you can no longer smoke on trains. Major passenger rail services around the world, including in the United States, strictly prohibit smoking onboard their trains.

Specifically, on all Amtrak trains, smoking is entirely prohibited. This comprehensive non-smoking policy extends beyond the train cars themselves to include:

  • All Amtrak Thruway buses
  • All Amtrak stations and station platforms

This means that all forms of smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, vape pens, and other similar electronic smoking devices, are not permitted at any time while onboard the train, on connecting bus services, or within station property. These policies are implemented to ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for all passengers and crew members.
