How do I Adjust Windows in Windows?

Published in Window Management 2 mins read

You can adjust window sizes and positions in Windows by using your mouse to click, hold, and drag the window. This allows you to resize and move windows according to your needs.

Resizing Windows

To resize a window, use the following methods:

  • Moving Up and Down:

    • Click on the top of the window.
    • Hold and drag the window down to make it smaller vertically.
    • Drag in the opposite direction (upwards) to make the window bigger vertically again.
  • Resizing Horizontally:

    • Move your mouse to the right or left side of the window.
    • Click and drag to make the window wider or narrower. This works for other computers as well.

Moving Windows

To move a window:

  1. Click and hold the very top of the window (the title bar).
  2. Drag the window to the desired location on your screen.
  3. Release the mouse button to drop the window in the new position.

Other Ways to Adjust Windows

In addition to dragging with your mouse, you can also use other methods:

  • Maximize: Click the maximize button (square icon) in the top right corner to make the window full screen.
  • Minimize: Click the minimize button (dash icon) in the top right corner to make the window disappear to the taskbar.
  • Restore Down: If a window is maximized, the maximize button changes to a restore down button (two overlapping squares). Click it to return the window to its previous size.

Tips for Window Management

  • Snap Assist: Drag a window to the edge of your screen, and Windows will automatically "snap" it into place, taking up half of your screen.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts: You can use keyboard shortcuts, like Windows key + left/right arrow keys to resize and move windows quickly.
  • Multitasking: Combining these adjustment methods can help you work more efficiently by organizing open windows to your liking.
