Setting up your Yealink phone typically involves connecting it physically, pairing any cordless handsets, and then configuring basic settings and your voice service.
Initial Physical Setup
Before you begin configuring your phone, ensure it's properly connected:
- Power Connection: Plug the power adapter into the phone or base station and then into a power outlet.
- Network Connection:
- For desk phones (wired), connect an Ethernet cable from your network router or switch to the Internet port (or WAN port) on the back of your Yealink phone. If your phone has a PC port, you can connect your computer to it.
- For cordless base stations, connect the base station to your network using an Ethernet cable.
Your phone should power on and begin to boot up.
Pairing Your Yealink Handset to the Base Station
If you have a cordless Yealink phone system, you will need to pair your handset(s) with the base station. This process registers the handset, allowing it to communicate with the base and make/receive calls.
Follow these steps to pair your handset:
- Initiate Paging on Base: On the base station, press and hold the paging button until the first LED indicator on the base begins to flash. This puts the base station into registration mode.
- Access Handset Menu: On your Yealink handset, press the OK button to enter the main menu.
- Navigate to Settings: Scroll through the menu options and select Settings.
- Select Registration: Within the Settings menu, choose Registration.
- Register Handset: Select the option Register Handset.
- Choose Base Station: When the LCD screen on your handset displays a list like "Base 1-4", select Base 1 (or the appropriate base number if you have multiple bases).
The handset will then attempt to register with the selected base station. Once successful, the handset will display a confirmation message, indicating it's ready for use.
Basic Phone Configuration and Service Registration
After physical setup and handset pairing, your phone may automatically connect to your network and obtain an IP address via DHCP. The next steps typically involve configuring the phone to connect to your specific Voice over IP (VoIP) service.
- Time and Date: Often, your phone will automatically synchronize its time and date with your VoIP service or a network time server. If not, you may find options to set these manually in the phone's Settings or Basic Settings menu.
- Account Registration (SIP): For your phone to make and receive calls, it needs to be registered with your VoIP service provider. This usually involves entering SIP account details (like a SIP server address, username, and password) into the phone's web interface or directly through the phone's menu. Your service provider will supply these credentials.
Once successfully registered, your phone will display an "Idle" or "Ready" status, indicating it's connected to your service and ready to place calls.
